Man hiking on Mount Marathon dies after falling into creek, waterfall
A 21-year-old man died Tuesday after he fell into a creek on Mount Marathon,
and was swept down an aqueduct and through a waterfall, Seward police said.
Jason Hulsey, 21, of Kodiak, died shortly after he was pulled from the bottom
of the waterfall and was taken to a local hospital, said police Sgt. Doreen
Valadez.
Valadez said Hulsey was hiking in Lowell Canyon with two friends when he
slipped into Lowell Creek around 6:30 p.m. The creek feeds into the aqueduct,
roughly the length of a football field. Valadez said it was built to divert
water away from the city.
Hulsey was in Seward going to technical school, Valadez said.
Police said no foul play is suspected.
